PIMA and ICOMOS Pasifika wish to thank financial supporters and partners – from 1999 to today
Our Sponsors
Funds for the administrative expenses of the Secretariat have traditionally been raised from the association’s membership fees. However as museums and heritage organisations around the region struggle to raise their own operational budgets through government grants, visitation revenue and philanthropic sources, the amount they can contribute is not sufficient to finance the Secretariat and due to this lack of funding, PIMA and ICOMOS Pasifika urgently seek funds to support our work.
PIMA and ICOMOS Pasifika urgently seek funds to support our work
The following list details all the organisations who have financially supported PIMA and ICOMOS Pasifika in the past. Traditionally this support has largely been restricted to training programmes however more recent proposals have addressed research and marketing needs and have resulted in the funding of projects such as the Online Pacific Museum and Cultural Institution Database, and the creation of the Pacific Heritage Network website.

Our Partners
PIMA and ICOMOS Pasifika have developed strong relationships with many regional and international organisations and agencies over the past two decades. Information on some of our partners follows:
The International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) is an intergovernmental body, which provides expert advice on how to conserve listed sites, as well as training in restoration techniques. ICCROM was set up in 1956 and is located in Rome. It is an active partner in the World Heritage Information Network. ICCROM has had a long relationship with PIMA and has been a major source of funding for a variety of projects, particularly during the PREMO 1994-1998 project which was the forerunner to the establishment of PIMA.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) was created in 1946. It is a non-governmental international organisation of museums and museum professionals that is committed to the world's present and future, tangible and intangible, natural and cultural heritage. ICOM maintains formal relations with UNESCO and has a consultative status with the United Nations' Economic and Social Council. As a non-profit organisation, ICOM is financed primarily by membership fees and supported by various governmental and other bodies. It carries out part of UNESCO's programme for museums. Based in Paris, France, the ICOM Headquarters houses both the ICOM Secretariat and the UNESCO-ICOM Museum Information Centre.
The ICOM Executive Council granted PIMA affiliate status at its 91st session held in Melbourne, Australia held on October 10, 1998. In May 2003, the Chairman of PIMA was invited by ICOM Australia to participate in a South Pacific Forum at the Museums Australia Conference in Perth. The purpose of the Forum was to update Australian museum professionals with the situation of museums in the Pacific region and to identify the priority needs of these museums. Ongoing discussions are continuing between PIMA and ICOM Australia to identify actions to address these needs. Attendance by the members of the Executive Board at ICOM's General Assembly and Conference held every four years has afforded opportunities for the PIMA Board to meet together in one place as well as conducting international networking.
UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre (WHC) encourages countries to protect their own natural and cultural heritage and to encourage States Parties to the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage to nominate sites within their national territory for inclusion on the World Heritage List. WHC has been a partner of PIMA on a number of projects concerning natural and cultural heritage sites.
The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is an international non-governmental organization of professionals, dedicated to the conservation of the world's historic monuments and sites. ICOMOS provides a forum for professional dialogue and a vehicle for the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of information on conservation principles, techniques, and policies. ICOMOS Pasifika is the International Scientific Committee of ICOMOS, which is concerned with the heritage of the Pacific Islands region.
