PIMA and ICOMOS Pasifika represent Pacific Islands museums, cultural centres, national trusts, cultural departments and ministries, national parks, historic preservation offices, interpretative centres, community cultural associations, arts councils, universities and research centres – and the individuals that work in these organisations.

Our members include all the countries, states and territories of the Pacific region including American Samoa, Cook Islands, Easter Island (Rapa Nui) Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Hawaii, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island, Northern Mariana Islands, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Island, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Western Samoa.

PIMA enjoys continued support and a strong sense of ownership by members and stakeholders. This was supported during the 2002 regional Meeting of Ministers of Culture where Ministers in adopting their Declaration stated;

“Museums have a vital role to play in the protection, preservation and promotion of traditional knowledge and culture. We endorse the relevance of the Pacific Islands Museums Association (PIMA) and support its role in improving the capacity and promoting standards of museums and cultural centres and in ensuring these become living entities for the people of the Pacific Island countries and territories. We encourage membership of PIMA by Pacific Island countries and territories. We recognise the need for greater financial support for PIMA’s activities.”

Why join the Pacific Heritage Network?

Regional associations offer an additional level of support that complements the priorities set at national levels. However regional associations can only be as effective as their members make them. These organisations belong to all Pacific Islanders. If you are employed in the Pacific heritage sector, is in your best interest to actively participate in the Pacific Heritage Network and to ensure the association addresses your needs and represents your issues in regional and global forums.

Drawing support from our international colleagues

The Pacific Heritage Network members also include many international institutions and individuals who support the vision, mission aims and activities of PIMA and ICOMOS Pasifika.

These include international museums with Pacific collections, universities and research centres undertaking research into Pacific culture and heritage and regional cultural associations and organisations.

Our membership also includes individuals with Pacific Islands knowledge, experience and interest in such fields as art history, archaeology, anthropology contemporary arts practice, cultural heritage history, material conservation, museum studies and tourism.

Why join the Pacific Heritage Network?

Joining the Pacific Heritage Network is a great way to both keep in touch with the latest news, developments and trends taking place in the Pacific Islands culture and heritage sectors today, whilst at the same time financially contributing to the operation of a not-for-profit, independent and Pacific-based association that is actively working to preserve, celebrate and nurture Pacific cultures, heritage professionals and communities.
