PIMA's Professional Development and Training Program

Providing a network of support for Pacific heritage professionals

PIMA provides both regional and international networks that offer professional support and expertise to heritage workers in the Pacific. PIMA has a proven record in improving the capacity and promoting standards of Pacific museums and cultural centres and in ensuring these become living entities for the people of the Pacific Island countries and territories.

PIMA’s Training Courses

“PIMA gave us training and information that was uniquely relevant to one’s own museum”

PIMA has delivered a series of very effective workshops funded by a range of donors in different locations throughout the region have addressed many of the basic needs of museums and museum professions working in the region. These courses are based on the philosophy that there is a need to teach conservation practices which are practical for the environmental, cultural and financial conditions of the Pacific region. This is made even more pressing by the fact that most Pacific museum and cultural centre personnel have had minimal formal training or experience in working in a properly maintained and funded museum institution.
